My personal story
Lagan, (pronounced luh-guhn), derived from Hindi and Sanskrit, encompasses the essence of attachment, devotion, and inclination. To Live with Lagan represents a deep connection—a profound commitment to pursuing a life that resonates with your core desires and values.
Even when you are not sure exactly what your values and purpose are, it is the practice of being devoted to the beliefs that lead you towards your goals, towards harmony in your day-to-day life, towards living a life that is Joyful and fulfilled….
I refer to it as a practice because it is a routine, a set of habits, right from the thoughts you allow to fill your mind to the resulting actions and behaviors that drive your day, the culmination of which is the reality we create for ourselves… for better or worse! Whether we are looking to achieve a goal in our careers, build deep and meaningful relationships, or manifest the life of our dreams, our success is directly correlated to our dedication and commitment. Interestingly, in Hindi, where the word “Lagan” originates, Lagan means devotion but is also synonymous with having a deep love for something or someone. That is the power of living with lagan, dedication with love, moves mountains. It is an alignment that conjoins our most powerful energies, not only within ourselves but with the universe around us. It is the alignment that inspires the universe to conspire in our pursuits and desires.
I grew up awkward about my name “Lagan”, growing up in Canada, it was never pronounced correctly, and as a child, I was too shy to correct anyone! Until now, most of my childhood friends call me “Leg-ann” and I still respond to every version of my name in between. But over the years, occasionally, I would meet a cultured Indian somewhere in the world, usually on a flight or in an airplane lounge, who when I would introduce myself, would say “Wow! Your name is Lagan!? Do you know the meaning behind your name? Someone must have taken great care in naming you Lagan!” I would be flattered, and it’s probably one of my favorite compliments, but I’ll be honest, I only understood the essence of my name when I discovered the depth of my own devotion and love towards my journey, and all that I hold sacred within it.
Live with Lagan is a passion project, a culmination of all my adventures and learnings, but fundamentally, of my awakening… I would even call it a rebirth, from pain, traumas, mistakes, failures, to the realization that I have been guided all along, by my own voice, (that was once clouded by many others) and a universal alignment that leaves me awestruck, constantly! A voice and guidance that led me to live across 3 continents, do 2 master’s degrees, almost finish a Doctorate, become a mother to 3 amazing boys, work for businesses, start businesses, consult, teach, coach, strategize! Have so much fun! And most profoundly, a voice that led me to the realization, that I am Lagan, I am Love and Service. I am devoted to living my life with these principles and sharing it with those around me – And with this knowing, I am at peace, I am full – Every Day!
